Let me explain…

Virtual Gastric Band is a process that I have been using for many years with clients. It works very well in creating a sense of fullness so that you can be satisfied on much smaller amounts of food much more quickly than normal. However, in the years of working with the gastric band process and in my further years of study specifically in the area of food, eating, weight & body issues, I realised that the band itself, it just isn’t enough. It’s not enough to change 20,30,40,50 years of eating habits and behaviours. It’s your mindset that needs to change, not just restriction, a restriction is not enough to create positive new habits long term.

This is where I use the gastric band quite differently to other therapists. Like traditional gastric band therapy, I create a hypnotic state where I take you off for the surgical procedure, the band itself is designed to have you eating smaller portions of food and this procedure works extremely well. I use the gastric band as a very effective appetite sensitivity tool, a complete re-learning of your hunger and fullness cues, these are your natural innate instincts that we are each born with, but, over the years of constant dieting, yo-yo’ing, ignoring our hunger & binging, all the signals have become completely upside down, backward and inside out.

The gastric band forms the foundation and groundwork of the deep work that I do with my clients as we journey together to find food and body freedom. The gastric band and the connection to the stomach are reinforced throughout all the work that I do with my clients and its reinforced in the hypnosis audio that you would use each night as you are falling off to sleep, however it is only a very small part of the work that I do.

What happens in a session?

relaxThe first session is three (3) hours, we will look at your history with food, dieting and your body. We look at all the current eating habits and identify problematic areas. We are looking at all the factors, be it emotional and/or psychological that are at the root of the problem, these are the things that are keeping you stuck. We then look at your goals and how you would like things to be. Sure, weight loss is in there, usually, it’s the main one, but what other goals do you have around your eating and your body.

In that same session, the very first one, we undertake the gastric band ‘procedure’, where you are guided into hypnosis. This happens easily and very comfortably to a point of deep relaxation, where we can access the deeper part of your mind (the subconscious). We then take you through the operation step by step from being put under anaesthetic and the journey on a trolley to the operating theatre, to the incision, the application of the gastric band and the stitching to close the incision, of course ,you are perfectly comfortable and safe and there is no pain or discomfort whatsoever, remember this is an operation of the mind. What happens in a sessionIn hypnosis, the subconscious mind doesn’t understand the difference between real and imagined, the boundaries between what is real and what is imagined are blurred leaving the body responding as if it occurred, leaving you with real physical responses after the session has finished.

Everyone experiences different effects from gastric band hypnotherapy, with some people experiencing the sensation of physical tightening in their stomach, while others are unable to identify any conscious connection to the ‘surgery’, but are naturally eating less & satisfied on much smaller portions.

We know that diets done workMost people who follow a traditional dieting system will lose weight whilst they are on that diet. But, as soon as the diet stops, the weight invariably returns, often leaving them heavier than before the diet began!! It is estimated that 95-99% of all people who diet experience this cycle.

Most diets include some form of deprivation and or denial, some involve counting calories, points or meal replacement, mostly these merely serve to programme the mind to think about food. Thus, when you stop the diet, you will find yourself thinking even more about food that you did before.

And, in the denial of comfort foods, in eating different meals to the rest of the family, three things happen, the brain fights against it, the body fights against it and the day to day environment fights against it.

You will be encouraged to follow some simple guidelines and receive support materials to take home including a support CD. This is NOT a short-term fix but a LONG TERM PERMANENT change to your relationship with food and your relationship with your body.

So, will I lose weight?
The focus will be on changing your habits & behaviours rather than the number of the scales. As your habits & behaviours change the body follows. What we tend to see is that most clients lose an average of around 500g per week. Most of our clients are thrilled to be consistently losing this amount of weight without dieting, without strain, without restriction.

It is recommended that follow up sessions be scheduled once per month until the goal weight is achieved as we continue working on your new and permanent relationship with food and your body and reinforce your goals. Remember we are re-programming 20,30,40, 50 years of food patterns, behaviours & habits, it is the long-term changes that will ultimately change your life.
